There is nothing that permits one to define what is "useful" to man

Human society can have an interest in considerable losses, in catastrophes that, while conforming to well-defined needs, provoke tumultuous depression, crises of dread, and in the final analysis, a certain orgiastic state.

It is possible to admit the historical necessity of vague and disappointing images, used by a majority of people, who do not act without a minimum of error (which they use as if it were a drug) - and who, moreover, in all circumstances refuse to find their way in a labyrinth resulting from human inconsistencies.
